_Cover_

When I first saw the cover I thought it looked really cool, but thought that it wasn't a book for me. But when I saw the first trailer of the movie I just wanted to read these books, so I ordered the first one on amazon. After reading the book, I think this cover is amazing. If you take a closer look then you see that everything fits perfectly together and shows the existence of the Mundane world and the Shadowhunter world next to each other! In the middle of the cover you see the skyline of New York City, under it the City of Bones and on top you see Jace, who symbolizes the Shadowhunters (half angel, half human ). I just love this cover so much! :)

_Summary_

When Clary Fray witnesses three tattoo-covered teenagers murder another teen, she is unable to prove the crime because the victim disappears right in front of her eyes, and no one else can see the killers. She learns that the teens are Shadowhunters (humans who hunt and kill demons), and Clary, a mundie (i.e., mundane human), should not be able to see them either. Shortly after this discovery, her mother, Jocelyn, an erstwhile Shadowhunter, is kidnapped. Jocelyn is the only person who knows the whereabouts of The Mortal Cup, a dangerous magical item that turns humans into Shadowhunters. Clary must find the cup and keep it from a renegade sector of Shadowhunters bent on eliminating all nonhumans, including benevolent werewolves and friendly vampires. Amid motorcycles powered by demon energies, a telepathic brotherhood of archivists, and other moments of great urban fantasy, the story gets sidetracked by cutesy touches, like the toasted bat sandwich on the menu of an otherworldly restaurant.

_My thoughts_

I have to admit that I don't have to say so much about this book, because it's so amazing, that it doesn't need many words. This book is the beginning of an awesome, exciting and suspending story. It is definitely one of my favorite books series and I can't get enough of it. If you take a closer look at the characters then you know that this story just has to be awesome. And Cassandra Clare's ideas are amazing. In this book, I especially, love the relation between Clary and Jace and between Clary and Simon, where there is a love triangle at the beginning, but also the set-up of the whole "Institute family" and how everything changes because of Clary. Clary thinks she is a normal teenage girl who lives a normal life in the mundane world (human world), but when she is in a club called "Pandemonium" with her best friend Simon, she witnesses how three people commit a murder no one else can see (they kill a demon, but Clary thinks it is a human being). She thinks that she is crazy, but knows what she saw. At another night out with her best friend, she sees one of the mysterious killers again and she confronts him. After that she dives into an adventure and a world she never even thought could exist and becomes a part of it.
Cassandra Clare's writing is amazing. I just can't say why it's just that you begin to read the book and you just can't stop, because in her books everything fits together perfectly.
The world she creates is a something that catches the interest in readers, because it's a world coexisting next to out ordinary world. It's something no one except for these who are part of it, the Downworlders and the Shadowhunters knows of its existence. It's a world where everyone likes to be part of in different kind of ways and the created world gives readers room for their imagination and a sanctuary from their every day life.
The characters are really relatable and you can identify yourself definitely with one of them. I can identify myself a lot with Clary, because she on the one hand is a normal girl like you and me, but on the other hand she has a special power which makes her extraordinary. She deals with the same problems we all have to deal with, but additional she has to deal with a lot more. Also Jace the mysterious guy who saved her life and who always seems so unreachable is in truth not so unreachable as Clary thinks, because she also changes his life.
Simon is a typical best friend and he is secretly in love with Clary. So he doesn't like Clary's affection for Jace and tries furthermore to win Clary's heart.
Isabelle Lightwood is Alec Lightwood's sister and lives with Jace in the institute. She seems like a remote, sexy and fearless Shadowhunter. But her fearless attitude is just a something to protect herself and her family, because her family stands in first place.
Alec Lightwood is Jace's parabatai and doesn't like Clary, because he thinks, that she endangers Jace even more than he usually does. But he becomes warmer and more caring throughout the series and you just have to love him.

_All in all I can say is..._

...that Cassandra Clare is a genius and what more do I have to say? If you love books like the Hunger Games and fantasy books, then you just need to buy and read this one. I think it is a book for all generations and I couldn't stop reading. Cassandra Clare just created a world everyone who gets to know about it, is drawn to it and can't stop to read on.

_Cover_
